The Lil Flea Bandra Experience- Flea markets are one of the best things to exist! You can get your hands on some really unique pieces at a fraction of cost. And while visiting a flea market is an amazing experience, here are some do’s and don’ts for you to check out before you step out of the house.
Wear comfy shoes
Flea markets involve a lot of walking, so wear something comfortable like slip on shoes or walking shoes to save your feet from aching by the end of the day.
Comfy clothes too
Flea markets are held at open ground spaces that may not have cooling. And all that walking is bound to make you sweaty and uncomfortable soon. So opt for the most comfortable pair of jeans or shorts you own and pair it with an equally comfortable top. If you are visiting during the daytime, keep a hat on your head to protect yourself from the sun.
A flea market is usually a large space and it takes time to navigate through one. Also, a flea market is usually held in an open space, so make sure you are hydrated enough by keeping a bottle of water with you.
Flea markets have small vendors who are there to sell their goods. They may not have card payment options. Also, you may find some really cool stuff that is super cheap. So keep cash change handy for easy purchase of the things you like.
Make sure to carry some handy, reusable cloth bags to store your purchases. It makes hopping from one stall to another all the more easy with your hands free.
To get your hands on the best stuff, visit the flea market during the early hours of the 1st day. There is usually less crowd and you can get some super cool stuff before anyone else. Visit the market again during the last day. This is when you can get the most discounts as the vendors are eager to sell their goods.
Do interact with the vendors. Polite and good customers get good offers too!
Haggle too much
Sure, bargaining is a part of a flea market, but do not haggle on every item you see. It makes you seem less serious about buying and you may not get any discount on the things you actually want to buy.
Wear your bag behind
Flea markets get crowded very quickly, and you need to protect your stuff from pickpockets. Or even from simply losing it in the crowd. Carry your in front of you and keep your phone or wallet in your front pockets where you can feel it on you at all times.
Pass up on things that need some repair
You may find antique stuff that may need a little TLC. If you like something and that can be repaired reasonably, get it. A simple paint job or a little fixing won’t cost as much as regretting not buying that beautiful antique table for instance!
So, keeping all these things in mind, I recently went to The Lil Flea at Bandra. The Lil Flea is one of the first flea markets to be organized at specific places and this November, it was the 12th year for it! How amazing! The Lil Flea has been one of my favourite markets to visit and I try to catch it every time they organize one in Mumbai. The Lil Flea, held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Nov this year, had over 200 brands participating.
There were so many things to experience for everybody at the flea! For people who do not want to shop, these were the experiences you could take in!
There were a host of bands performing live music at the Lil Flea. Grooving to amazing tracks with your friends enjoying the fresh air of the open grounds was a great experience.
The Lil Flea had also organized an open theatre space to watch some classic flicks with your friends. Or even have a magical date under the starry sky.
Pick your favourite dish or try something new! There were over 70 different brands offering a wide variety of dishes to dig in to at the Lil Flea.
An open bar to sip on a glass of cold beer with interesting conversations sounds like an amazing evening to me!
Not just these things, the Lil Flea also had spots for carnival games, organic gardening spots and even book exchange! Let your hobbies take over you for a magical evening!
If you are a shopper like me, here are some amazing things to shop at the Lil Flea.
The Lil Flea had stalls that sold unique art pieces and home decor items. Beautiful scented candles, wall hangings, dreamcatchers and posters for giving your apartment a mini makeover – you could find these and many more unique decor items at the Lil Flea.
What is a flea market without stalls for clothes! There were stalls selling comfortable, boho-chic clothing items that made for a great addition to my wardrobe!
From shiny pieces to oxidised jewellery, you could spot all the trendy things at the Lil Flea stalls. I definitely picked up some great accessories.
I feel that the whole vibe of this happy little flea market transports you to one of those country side music festivals that you get to see in only movies! Doesn’t it? Check out my video below to see it for yourself!
