No matter however much we shop at malls and designer boutiques, street shopping never loses its charm and is definitely worth a try especially when you are on a budget. Shopping at Hill Road is more popular among college girls because they offer affordable options to stay trendy but then who doesn’t want to save some bucks. I recently visited Hill Road at Bandra to see what I can get home without burning a hole in my pocket.
Location & Timings:
Hill Road starts from the intersection of Bandra railway station road and Swami Vivekanand Road (SV Road) and goes west up to Mehboob Studio, leading to the Bandstand Promenade, the Bandra Fort, and Mount Mary Church, Bandra. However the main shopping area is between Marks & Spencer and St. Peters Church. One can reach Bandra station by local train and then hop into a rickshaw for Hill Road. The market typically starts at around 11 am and goes on till 8 pm. If you don’t want to encounter the crowd of shopping enthusiasts, you can visit during lean hours like 2pm – 5 pm (assuming you are tolerant to heat since it is going to be hot). Also weekends get the highest no of footfalls so maybe Monday is going to be easier in terms of crowd and you will get better deals since the shopkeeper will have more inclination to sell off once you have shown interest and there are not 5 more people checking out stuff he has.
Street shopping is fun but you need to know the rules of the game especially when you are shopping at Hill Road, Bandra.
Fashion Collection: What to buy
Begin from one end and keep moving gradually checking out the clothes, jewellery and footwear displayed.
Clothes – We can find a wide variety of clothes right from party wear to casual clothes, embroidered fancy shrug to plain scarf. It is all about what matches your taste. Make sure you are extra careful about quality in terms of material used. Avoid picking a very thin material or something that has bobbles. Khodal, Kaystell & Pink House are small shops all together in a complex at Hill Road where you can find unique fashion items. Branded Western Store is another prominent shop to check while shopping at Hill Road, Bandra. Another spot which is not to be missed is near Enrich Salon. The collection there is fancier and brought from Bangkok which is similar to what you find in small boutiques at Bandra but you find it here at much more affordable price
Footwear – The collection ranges from sneakers, boots to heels and flat sandals. You must wear the footwear to check if they are comfortable. There are also footwear that go with ethnic wear. So Hill Road does have something for everyone in terms of variety in footwear.
Accessory – You will not be disappointed if you are looking for accessories to add extra oomph to your fashion game at Hill Road, Bandra. You get corsets, belts, rings, fancy necklaces and earrings in latest designs in prices between Rs 50 to Rs 250. You will also find sunglasses in as many colours as one wants. There will also be multiple options in terms of hand bags. I got some fancy caps from there recently.
I have made a video capturing my experience during the last visit to Hill Road, Bandra. Do check out the video below for more clarity:
